In short: we collect only what we need to run the site, we never sell your data, and you can ask us to see or delete it at any time.

1. Who We Are

Myritebook (“we”, “us”, “our”) runs https://www.myritebook.com/, an educational website with programming tutorials, mini projects, blog articles and multiple-choice quizzes. We operate from India. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only what the site needs to work. Depending on how you use it, this can include:

  • Account details: name, email address and an encrypted (hashed) password when you register. We never store your password in plain text.
  • Comments: the name, email address and comment text you enter on a blog post, along with your IP address and browser details. Your email address is not shown publicly.
  • Contact form: your name, email, subject and message, along with your IP address and browser details, which we use to prevent spam and abuse.
  • Newsletter: your email address if you subscribe.
  • Quiz activity: your quiz answers, scores and progress if you take MCQ quizzes while logged in.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, referring page and time of visit. This is collected by our server logs and by Google Analytics.

We do not ask for payment card details, government ID numbers or sensitive personal data. Please do not send them to us.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To run the site, create and manage your account and show your quiz progress.
  • To publish and moderate comments, and to answer messages you send us.
  • To send the newsletter you asked for and account emails such as password resets. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • To understand which content is useful and to improve the site (analytics).
  • To show advertising that helps us keep the content free (see section 5).
  • To protect the site against spam, abuse and security threats, and to meet legal obligations.

4. Legal Basis and Consent

We process your information based on your consent (for example when you subscribe, comment or accept optional cookies), to provide the services you ask for, and for our legitimate interest in running and securing the site. In India we follow the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000. For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we process data in line with the GDPR / UK GDPR on the grounds above. You can withdraw consent at any time.

5. Advertising and Google AdSense

We may show ads served by Google AdSense and other Google advertising products. Please note:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s previous visits to this and other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also visit aboutads.info to opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising.

We do not sell your personal information. Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA and the UK), personalised ads are shown only after you give consent.

6. Cookies and Similar Technologies

7. Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to see how visitors use the site (pages viewed, time on page, country, device type). Google Analytics collects data through cookies and may process your IP address. You can opt out by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

8. Third-Party Services

To run the site we rely on trusted providers. They receive only the data needed for their service and have their own privacy policies:

  • Google (Analytics, AdSense, Fonts) and Google Translate, which we may use to translate non-English comments into English.
  • Content delivery networks (jsDelivr, cdnjs / Cloudflare, jQuery CDN) that deliver libraries such as Bootstrap, Font Awesome and jQuery to your browser.
  • Our web hosting and email delivery providers, which store our database and send emails on our behalf.
  • Links to other websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of sites we link to.

9. How Long We Keep Data

  • Account details and quiz history: until you ask us to delete your account.
  • Comments: as long as the article stays published, unless you ask for removal.
  • Contact messages: up to 24 months, then deleted.
  • Newsletter emails: until you unsubscribe.
  • Server logs and security records: normally up to 12 months.

10. Your Rights

You can ask us to show you the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it for a specific purpose. You may also withdraw consent, and you can nominate someone to exercise these rights for you if the law allows. Email support@myritebook.com from the address linked to your account and we will reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India or, if you live in the EEA or UK, to your local data protection authority.

11. Data Security

We protect your data with HTTPS, hashed passwords, prepared database queries, CSRF tokens and restricted admin access. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affecting you occurs, we will notify you as the law requires.

12. International Transfers

Our service providers (such as Google) may process data on servers outside India. By using the site you understand that your information can be transferred and stored in other countries, where it is protected under our providers’ safeguards.

13. Children’s Privacy

The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. Visitors under 18 should use it with a parent or guardian’s guidance. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is significant, we will highlight it on the site or notify account holders by email.
